Sri Lanka has a way of drawing you in. It’s not just the scenery — though the sight of mist rolling over tea plantations or the towering silhouette of Sigiriya at sunrise is something you won’t forget — it’s the way life unfolds here. Over 15 nights, you’ll get a real feel for the island’s rhythm, moving from the energy of Colombo to the quiet charm of ancient cities and the lush stillness of the hill country.
This journey takes you deep into the heart of Sri Lankan culture and nature. Watch the colours and movement of a Kandyan dance, wander through spice gardens that smell like someone turned the volume up on your senses, and sip tea where it’s grown, surrounded by emerald-green hills. There’s wildlife too — Yala’s leopards, elephants near ancient temples, and birdsong echoing through the national parks. It’s not all go-go-go though; time on the south coast gives you a chance to slow right down, explore historic forts, and soak up that warm coastal air. With comfortable stays, a thoughtful pace, and a balance of guided insight and freedom to take it all in, this is Sri Lanka served up with real soul.
Welcome to Sri Lanka! Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, you’ll be greeted with a warm “Ayubowan” and a traditional flower garland. Your English-speaking chauffeur guide will escort you to your hotel in Colombo — a journey of roughly 45 minutes. Once checked in, the remainder of the day is yours to relax after the flight. Take a swim, unwind with a cup of tea, or enjoy a stroll nearby to soak in the energy of this eclectic capital. Colombo is a buzzing mix of colonial charm and modern flair, and you’ll have time to explore it properly tomorrow. For tonight, enjoy the ease of settling in, perhaps with some local cuisine or a quiet evening on the balcony.
Accommodation: Colombo
After breakfast, the day is yours to experience Colombo. In the evening, you’ll set out on a guided tour of this dynamic city. It’s a place where skyscrapers rise beside colonial-era buildings, and colourful markets hum with life. You’ll pass through areas like Fort, once the heart of British rule, and Cinnamon Gardens, now a stylish residential district. Wander through Pettah’s market maze, where everything from textiles to street food creates a carnival of sights and scents. Along the way, there’s time to admire seaside Galle Face Green and visit historic sites like the Independence Memorial Hall or Gangaramaya Temple. If you’re after a more laid-back afternoon, Colombo is also known for its great cafés, boutiques, and art galleries.

After breakfast, head inland to the cultural heartland of Sri Lanka. Today’s drive to Sigiriya or Habarana takes about 3.5 hours, passing through ever-changing scenery — from urban buzz to palm-dotted countryside. Once you arrive and check into your hotel, you’ll have time to rest and freshen up. In the evening, you’ll enjoy a vibrant cultural dance show featuring traditional Kandyan performances with rhythmic drumming, colourful costumes, and fire walking. It’s a lively introduction to the country’s deeply rooted traditions and artistry. Settle in tonight under the stars of Sri Lanka’s central plains, ready for tomorrow’s adventure at Sigiriya Rock Fortress.

Accommodation: Sigiriya / Habarana
An early breakfast sets you up for the climb to the top of Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World,” this ancient royal citadel rises dramatically from the jungle. As you ascend the spiral staircases, you’ll pass water gardens, lion’s paws carved in stone, and stunning frescoes of celestial maidens. At the summit, take in panoramic views across the countryside. After your descent, continue to nearby Hiriwaduna village for a hands-on rural experience. Travel by tractor and boat, visit a working vegetable farm, and share lunch prepared by locals using traditional clay pots and woodfire methods. You’ll also get a cooking demo and insight into Sri Lankan village life — simple, warm, and full of flavour. Return to your hotel for a relaxed evening.

After breakfast, head out for a short drive to Anuradhapura, one of Sri Lanka’s most sacred and historic cities. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, these ruins once formed the heart of an ancient kingdom. Wander among towering dagobas, monastic complexes, and ancient irrigation tanks that still reflect the ingenuity of early civilisations. Don’t miss the Sri Maha Bodhi, a sacred fig tree said to descend from the original tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment. Among the crumbling stone temples and giant sculptures, you’ll also spot mischievous toque monkeys darting between ruins. After exploring this vast complex, return to your hotel and enjoy the rest of your day at leisure.

After breakfast, check out and begin your journey south towards Kandy. En route, stop at the Dambulla Cave Temple — a remarkable site carved into a rock over 160 metres high. Inside the five main caves, you’ll discover an astonishing collection of over 130 Buddha statues and richly painted murals dating back to the 1st century BC. The peaceful atmosphere and cool stone chambers offer a striking contrast to the heat outside. Continue on through the central plains, stopping at a local batik workshop where vibrant fabric art is created using traditional methods. Further along, stroll through a spice garden where the air is thick with the scent of cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves — all grown and processed by hand. Arrive in Kandy by late afternoon and check in to your hotel. The rest of the evening is free to unwind.

This morning starts with a visit to Sri Lanka’s most sacred site — the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Nestled within the royal palace complex, this temple houses a relic of the Buddha and draws pilgrims daily. The incense-filled halls, golden interiors, and rhythmic drumming create an atmosphere of reverence. Next, enjoy a quiet walk through the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya. These beautifully maintained grounds date back to the 14th century and feature over 4,000 plant species, including orchids, medicinal herbs, and towering palms. You might spot flying foxes dozing in the trees or locals picnicking under the shade. Return to your hotel with time to relax or explore Kandy’s lakeside charm on your own.

After breakfast, begin your scenic ascent into Sri Lanka’s hill country. This drive to Nuwara Eliya, often dubbed ‘Little England’, is one of the most picturesque in the country. Along the way, stop at a working tea factory to learn how the world-famous Ceylon tea is made — from leaf plucking to tasting. The cool climate greets you as you arrive in Nuwara Eliya, a charming colonial-era town with Tudor-style homes, rose gardens, and neat hedgerows. You might visit Gregory Lake, the Haggala Botanical Gardens, or the colourful Seetha Amman Temple. The town has a distinctly British feel, and even the air smells of damp earth and tea leaves. If time allows, browse the local produce market or settle in with a cuppa and a scone at a nearby café.

Winding through tea country and descending into the southern plains, the road reveals countless postcard-worthy views — waterfalls, green valleys, and vast tea estates clinging to steep hillsides. A stop in Ella offers time to stretch your legs and admire the view from the famed Nine Arches Bridge or the lookout at Ella Gap. As you approach Yala, the scenery changes again, giving way to open plains and wild scrub — a sign that you’re entering safari country. After checking in to your hotel, spend the evening relaxing by the pool or soaking in the peaceful surroundings.

From here, continue to the coastal town of Galle — a UNESCO-listed city steeped in colonial history. Walk the cobbled streets of Galle Fort at your own pace, popping into cafés, galleries, and the famous lighthouse. Then it’s onward to Beruwela, where your beachfront hotel awaits. After a full day, settle in and enjoy the ocean breeze and the slower pace of coastal life.
