Overview

Embark on a thoughtfully curated journey across Japan with Life’s An Adventure’s 14 Day Kumano Kodo & Nakasendo Way Walk. This Pack Free guided walking tour offers an enriching experience through two of Japan’s most celebrated trails, the spiritual Kumano Kodo and the storied Nakasendo Way. Travelling from Osaka to Tokyo, the itinerary combines deeply spiritual landscapes, cultural encounters, and historic village paths, all while enjoying comfortable accommodation and the freedom of light day packs.

The journey begins in the sacred Kii Mountains, where pilgrims have walked for over a thousand years. Following the Nakahechi Route, guests explore ancient cedar forests, visit the grand shrines of Kumano, and unwind in soothing onsen towns that have welcomed travellers for centuries. The quiet beauty and spiritual depth of this region offer a space for reflection and connection with nature.

From there, the tour shifts north to the Nakasendo Way, once trodden by Samurai and feudal lords. This section traces the path through beautifully preserved post towns like Magome, Tsumago, and Narai, where cobblestone streets and Edo era inns tell stories of Japan’s past. Along the way, guests enjoy authentic regional cuisine, visits to historic castles, and the hospitality of traditional ryokans.

More than just a walk, this tour is a journey through Japan’s living heritage. With every forest trail and village path, it invites a deeper understanding of the country’s enduring spirit and timeless beauty.
